Every writer suffers from writer''s block, whether you''re writing articles, a book, or something else. Writer''s block isn''t a fact of life for you though; there are some simple strategies you can use to overcome it quickly or avoid it all together.
Below are some of my favorite strategies:
1. Always keep a diary or journal.
Keeping a notebook of your thoughts and ideas will help you remember things you wanted to write about. It doesn''t have to be anything complicated either. If you prefer, you can even keep a simple text file on your computer.
If you like to be organized, use an online organizer or some type of software that allows you to organize your ideas.
2. Take time off.
Sometimes it''s not the time you spend working that''s important; it''s the time you spend doing something else that makes the difference.
Give yourself breaks throughout the day when you are working and think about something else. Try to take at least day a week off and do something else. If you can''t concentrate on something else because your mind is a jumble of ideas, then this is a good time to get your notebook out and write all of those ideas down. Then you can spend your time off doing something else.
3. Create a workspace that inspires your creativity.
Everyone has a personal style when it comes to a work space. I personally like my work space uncluttered, and all of the resources I need within easy reach. I''ve gone green by using eraseable boards and calendars so I can keep track of the projects I''m working on.
Get organized first. Arrange your work space in such a way that everything you need is convenient. Put up a dream board with places you would like to visit, or things you would like to buy. This may help you get your focus back and concentrate on getting things done.
4. Set the right mood.
Every writer is different, and every writer needs different things to inspire the imagination. The right music, a drink, exercise, or whatever it takes to put you in the mood will help. Remember though: sometimes there is no right time to write. Sometimes you simply have to sit down and just do it.
5. Try something new.
If you have a really bad case of writer''s block, maybe it''s time to try something new. Take a vacation, sign up for a class, or take up a hobby. You don''t have to go crazy or spend a lot of money to recharge yourself.
Writer''s block hits us all at one time or another. Do what it takes to get inspired and stay that way.
